Rental Item Groups

This page describes the Rental Item Groups setting in the Rental module.

---

Rental Item Groups allow you to divide Rental Items into categories. Most importantly, Rental Item Groups allow you to specify whether Rental Items will be subject to inspection whenever they are returned from a period of rent.

If you will use Rental Item Groups, it is usually recommended that you create Rental Item Group records that correspond with your Item Groups, and that you use the same Codes in an Item Group and in the corresponding Rental Item Group.

Code
Enter a unique Code for the Rental Item Group. The Code can consist of up to five characters, and you can use both numbers and letters.

When you specify an Item Number in a Rental Item record, the Item Group from the relevant Item record will be copied to the Group field in that Rental Item record. The purpose of this field is to allow you to assign the Rental Item to a Rental Item Group. As the default is the Code of an Item Group, you may therefore find it useful to use Codes in your Rental Item Groups that correspond to and are the same as the Codes you have used for your Item Groups.

Comment
Enter a descriptive name for the Rental Item Group record. This will be shown in the 'Rental Item Groups: Browse' window and the 'Paste Special' list and so should be clear enough to make the selection of the correct Rental Item Group easy for all users.

Automatically create Inspection after the Item comes in
Select this option if you need Rental Items belonging to the Rental Item Group to be inspected when you receive them back from being rented out. If you are using this option, records will be created in the Rental Item Inspection register for any Rental Item belonging to the Rental Item Group in an Items In record when you mark that record as Accepted and save.
