Stock Adjustments

From time to time you may need to adjust your stock balances for returned goods etc. Although you can enter such adjustments in the Goods Receipt register, it is usually recommended that you explore the following options first:
  • If you originally supplied the goods being returned using a Sales Order and Delivery, you should usually create a Returned Goods record from the Sales Order or, preferably, from the Delivery. This will make it more likely that you will be able to receive Items back into stock with the value they had when you delivered them. Please refer here for more details about creating Returned Goods records from Deliveries.

  • If you originally supplied the goods being returned without a Sales Order or Delivery (i.e. there was an Invoice only), you can create a Credit Note from the Invoice using the 'Credit Note' function on the Create menu (Windows/macOS) or + menu (iOS/Android), and ensure the Credit Note will update stock. Again, this will make it more likely that you will be able to receive Items back into stock with the value they had when you delivered them. This process is described on the Credit Notes page..

If a stocktake reveals that you have a greater quantity of an Item in physical stock than the stock level recorded in your Standard ERP database, you can enter a Goods Receipt to adjust for the discrepancy. Please refer to the description of the Stocktaking register here for details.
