Creating a Report Generator Report - Using Variables and Formulae

This page describes using variables in the calculations in a Report Generator report, and including them in the report output.

---

Much of the power and flexibility of the Report Generator relies on the use of variables. So far, you have placed variables in the specification window that you have then used to store search criteria. You have also used the variable that contains the current record to search for connected records in a secondary register. You can also use variables and formulae to include calculations in your report. For example, you can use them to count the number of records in the report, make percentage comparisons between two fields or calculate totals. On this page, we will illustrate the use of variables and formulae by adding a record count to the example Customer List report that we are using in this documentation. The record count will be printed at the end of the report to show the number of Customers in the list.
