Location Classifications

This page describes the Location Classifications setting in the Stock module.

---

Together with Location Groups, you can use Location Classifications to classify Locations. You can allocate several Location Classifications to each Location, but only one Location Group. An example use for Classifications will be to record the type of stock that you hold in different Locations, such as raw materials, refrigerated goods etc.

After defining your Location Classifications, you can assign them to your Locations using the Classification field on the 'Address' card of each Location record. This field can contain one or more Location Classifications, separated by commas.

You can use the Location Classification as a search criterion in the Delivery Journal, Goods Receipt Journal, Item History and Stock List reports in the Stock module. For example, if you specify an Item Number and a Location Classification when running the Stock List report, the report will show how many units of the Items are held in each Location with the specified Location Classification.

To work with Location Classifications, first use the [Switch Module] button in the Home Screen to ensure you are in the Stock module. Then, if you are using Windows or macOS, click the [Settings] button, also in the Home Screen, and double-click 'Location Classifications' in the resulting list. If you are using iOS or Android, select 'Settings' from the Tools menu (with 'wrench' icon) and tap 'Location Classifications' in the 'Settings' list. The 'Location Classifications: Browse' window opens, listing the Location Classifications that you have already entered:

To enter a new Location Classification, select 'New' from the Create menu (Windows/macOS) or the + menu (iOS/Android). The 'Location Classification: New' window appears: enter the Code, Comment and Location Classification Type as appropriate and click [Save] (Windows/macOS) or tap √ (iOS/Android) to save the new record. You can use the 'Paste Special' function from the Classification Type field to bring up a selection list (listing the records in the Location Classification Types setting).
