Entering, Inspecting and Changing Accounts - Header
This page describes the fields in the Header of the Account record. Please follow the links below for descriptions of the other cards:
---
- Account
- The unique number of the Account. You can use up to ten characters, with a minimum of two.
- It is usually recommended that you use distinct Account Number ranges for each Account Type. For example, Income Accounts should have Account Numbers from one range, Expense Accounts should have Account Numbers from a different range, and so on. Within those ranges, similar Accounts should have similar Account Numbers. For example, Sales Accounts should have similar Account Numbers, Bank Accounts should have similar Account Numbers and so on. This will ensure that they appear together in reports. You should leave gaps in the Account Number sequences that you use, so that you can insert new Accounts in the right place at a later date. For example, you should be able to add new Sales Accounts for new products that have similar Account Numbers to your existing Sales Accounts.
- After you have saved an Account, you cannot change the Account Number simply by typing into the field. If you need to change an Account Number, use the Conversions - Master and Conversions - Accounts settings in the System module. These settings will change the Account Number both here and in every other record where the Account has been used.
- Name
- The name or description of the Account.
