The File menu contains commands for the handling of files, documents and printouts. Instead of selecting an item from the menu, you can in some cases click on the corresponding button in the Master Control panel. Many of the commands on the File menu also have a keyboard shortcut, shown to the right of each command in the menu, e.g. Ctrl-P (Windows and Linux) or ⌘-P (Macintosh) for 'Print'. These shortcuts are shown in the illustrations above: the Macintosh version is shown first, then the Windows version.
