Restaurant - Preparing for Live Connections
After carrying out the steps listed on the
Preparing the Main Database page, you will be ready to prepare each till, cash machine and hand-held device for live connection. Tills that will use a live-sync connection should not be prepared as described here: instead, refer to the
Preparing a Till or Device for Live-Sync Connection page.
Carry out the configuration work itemised below separately on each till, cash machine and hand-held device. If your tills do not have keyboards, you may need to create and test databases for each one on a desktop client and then copy those databases (i.e. the "HANSA.HDB" files) to the tills over the network. This method will also be useful if all your tills will have similar configurations with minor differences, as you can use one database as a template, duplicate it and only make the changes necessary for a particular till.
- Connect the till or device to the server Following the instructions on the Creating a New Database - Client' page, create a new database and connect to the server in the usual way.
- Local Machine Code Go to the Local Machine setting in the User Settings module and:
- Assign a unique Code (the "Local Machine Code") to the till or device. Use 'Paste Special' from the Code field to choose a Code from the list of Local Machines that you created in step 7 on the Preparing the Main Database page. You will need to restart Standard ERP on a till or device after specifying its Local Machine Code, in order for that Code to be fully registered throughout the system.
- Set some till-specific defaults, such as the Default Customer (overriding the overall default, set in the POS Settings setting).

- Log-in Options Remaining in the User Settings module, specify log-in options for each till or device using the Login Options setting and the Login Shortcuts register. The Login Options setting controls the appearance of the 'Login' window and is described here, while the Login Shortcuts register specifies which window will appear immediately after logging in and is described here.
If you are using a template database and duplicating it for each till, you can fill the Login Shortcuts register in the template with every user likely to log in. In a large environment, however, this will result in too many buttons being placed in the 'Login' window (one for each user). You may therefore prefer to fill the Login Shortcuts register separately in each till database, creating buttons only for the users likely to use the particular till.
- Tab Item Groups The Tab Item Group register in the User Settings module also contains various options governing the behaviour of each till, device and cash machine. For example, you can specify here that you want all Bar Tabs raised on a particular till or device to be marked with a particular Tag/Object, and you can also specify which kitchen printer each ordered Item should be sent to. Please refer here for details.
- The configuration work described in the previous steps will be stored in the databases on the tills and devices, not in that on the main server. This means you should back up each till database separately. If, as was described in the introduction, you created separate databases for each till on a desktop client, you can create a text back-up file for each database on that desktop client as well.
